King’s Bruton is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school of 360 pupils aged 13-18. 

We require an inspiring, passionate and well-qualified Head of Cricket and Assistant Head of Hockey to lead cricket and support hockey at King’s. As Head of Cricket the successful applicant will take responsibility for cricket throughout King’s and continue to develop the excellent participation and performance seen throughout the school. This will involve organising cricket fixtures, teams and coaching, and continue to attract strong cricket players to King’s. It will also include supporting and organising sessions with our visiting cricket professional who helps to develop pupil’s performance throughout the year.

A significant part of this role will be assisting the Head of Hockey with the administration and daily operation of boys’ and girls’ hockey throughout the school. This includes coaching teams, running 1-1 sessions with the school’s elite hockey players, and continuing to develop hockey at King’s. King’s has a strong reputation for hockey both regionally and nationally having reached both Indoor and Outdoor National finals in recent years, and producing a number of international players. 

King’s benefits from outstanding hockey and cricket facilities and participation in both sports throughout the school is very strong. King’s benefits from 4 cricket pitches, indoor cricket nets, 2 astro turfs (1 floodlit) and facilities for indoor hockey. 

The Head of Cricket and Assistant Head of Hockey will work closely with the Director of Sport to ensure the effective delivery of both sports, and to continue to build and enhance King’s strong sporting reputation. 

The position is suitable for both experienced and newly qualified teachers/ coaches and there may be the possibility to combine this position with a Resident Tutor position in the school. Salary will reflect experience/ qualifications, as well as any additional responsibilities undertaken as part of the role.

King’s Bruton is a mixed independent school with sixth form in the Somerset town of Bruton. Students attend the school from the ages of 13 to 18, with the option to board throughout their school careers. There are approximately 370 students on roll. The Somerset school operates in partnership with Hazlegrove Preparatory School, in nearby Sparkford.

King’s Bruton was founded as a boys' school in 1519, admitting girls in the late 1960s before becoming fully co-educational in 1997.
