Job overview

Head of Cricket

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a cricket specialist to take on this new full-time role responsible for building the cricket programme with a new coaching team and significantly improved facilities.

We would like to hear from applicants who are passionate at delivering high quality sessions and are interested in inspiring teams and individuals to achieve at all levels. You will join a team of talented and professional staff who have a passion to support our students to compete and aspire at the highest level. You will be a qualified teacher experienced in teaching BTEC and GCSE Sport, have a Level 2 coaching qualification in Cricket or Football as you will also support the football programme, and ideally a Level 3 coaching qualification.

During the day you will be teaching in the mornings, actively coaching on the sports field in afternoon sessions and after school you will take part in the extra-curricular programme. You will also be required to support our Saturday and midweek fixtures programme during term-time.

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

Our exceptional onsite facilities include 6 full size grass football pitches (1 floodlit), a new Olympic standard floodlit hockey pitch, 2 further new floodlit all-weather games areas for Netball and Tennis. We also have a large well-equipped sports hall, a gymnasium and a 25m indoor swimming pool. Sport is top of our agenda for future capital projects to enhance our facilities and we have full planning permission to build a floodlit 4G football AstroTurf.

Alongside this fantastic opportunity to join a top team of colleagues, we offer excellent benefits including all meals provided free in term time, free car parking, immediate access to a non-contributory pension scheme, a discount on School fees, use of the Swimming Pool, Strength and Conditioning facility and, where possible, support for your professional development through internal professional development activities and support to attain specific coaching qualifications. You will work in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, and thrive as part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.

If you are interested in joining us, please visit http://www.royalrussell.co.uk/Vacancies where you will find further information on this position and an application form.  All completed applications should be submitted to hr@royalrussell.co.uk by 12 noon on Monday 9 March 2020. Applications will be considered on receipt and interviews will be held the following week. If you have not heard from us by 13 March 2020, you should presume that you have not been successful on this occasion.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List) and other pre-employment screening including a check on the Secretary of State list of prohibited staff, references and medical fitness.
