Job overview

This exciting opportunity will enable you to become AQA’s lead subject expert for English. You will be the face of AQA for this subject and act as subject representative for AQA with our external stakeholders in order to influence national curriculum design and ensure that AQA is the go to board for the subject.

You will have the opportunity to create the vision for the subject and contribute to AQA’s strategy for English, create and deliver content to support teachers, and provide insight and thought leadership in relation to the subject.

The role:

  • create the vision and curriculum strategy for the subject using expertise and insight to influence product strategy
  • help to shape key messages in line with the vision for the subject and communicate these to stakeholders
  • plan stakeholder engagement activities and engage with and influence key national customer groups
  • understand developing needs and trends in the subject to ensure AQA is ready for future qualification reform
  • present at stakeholder events in line with strategy in order to influence stakeholder views and decisions
  • ensure  high quality content and support materials are developed in line with the overall strategy
  • contribute to planning and quality assurance of customer engagement activities and the creation of resources
  • provide training, briefings and written material for staff and associates on subject and curriculum
  • respond to customer queries in a timely manner in line with brand and tone of voice guidelines
  • identify suitable subject experts to produce resources and deliver events and other activities
  • coordinate subject expert input and quality assure external facing activities as appropriate for the subject
  • collaborate with the Assessment Design Team to ensure assessment design and curriculum is aligned
  • contribute insight and expertise to other AQA teams help achieve shared delivery objectives and goals
  • manage a small team of subject experts to deliver the business needs.


We are looking for an inspirational leader who has:

  • acted as a leading teacher or held a key influencing role in education
  • an excellent understanding of subject and curriculum and latest practice
  • an understanding of assessment design and delivery and how to influence English education in the 21st century
  • strong presentation skills and the gravitas to represent AQA at high profile conferences and events
  • the ability to think strategically and understand the environment and context in which AQA operates
  • an empathetic approach to identifying the needs of teachers.
