Job overview

Our Head of Data Systems and Intelligence will establish and oversee Trust-wide data management and intelligence systems and processes allowing appropriate, effective, and robust performance reporting and analysis.

Working with senior leaders of education and support functions, you will identify policies and approaches required to ensure progress and performance can be consistently and reliably measured and presented.

Your work will result in insights into performance of each academy as well as the Trust as a whole, being presented in a manner which is user friendly, visually intuitive, and insightful. It will be suitable for the target audience highlighting the trends, identifying opportunities as well as risks.

Working collaboratively across the academies and central teams, to develop relationships, support colleagues, and provide guidance and leadership as appropriate.  

Main Duties

  • Development, implementation, and ownership of data systems,
  • Provide academies and central functions with an ability to collect data for evaluation of performance in a controlled and consistent manner,
  • To ensure accurate and robust reporting functionality provides the target audience with dashboards and reports containing clear information and insights for the purpose of evaluating performance and identifying trends and risks,
  • To liaise with Trust teams and academies to identify, develop, and monitor processes forming the basis of all data related activities,
  • To provide expertise and support to all academies and central teams in relation to MIS and other data and analytics systems used within Astrea,
  • Monitor data systems’ issues, support, and training requests identifying opportunities for staff training, systems improvements, or automation,
  • Provide bespoke reporting, analysis, and summaries,
  • To facilitate relevant training for all staff as required in support of relevant Astrea policies and appropriate performance of data intelligence systems,
  • To lead the development of Astrea’s data systems ensuring opportunities for integrating distributed functionalities are identified and seized, lead on procurement,
  • Identify and address gaps in Astrea’s data capabilities and capacity,
  • Identify opportunities where automation of data related activities can contribute to a reduction of workload for staff and improvements in Trust’s ability to support daily activities, and deliver on them,
  • As a senior member of the Information & Technology team, lead on the development of Intelligent dashboards supporting all Astrea departments and teams,
  • Oversee and ensure delivery of all statutory, agency, and Trust’s regular reporting ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness,
  • Benchmark Trust’s performance internally and against relevant industry information,
  • Facilitate methods of identifying deviations and non-conformities as they develop providing early warnings to leaders,
  • Manage 3rd party providers ensuring Astrea receives the best value,
  • Ensure data security is always at the forefront of design and activities,
  • Data Intelligence Team line management and associated responsibilities,
  • Identify opportunities for improvements, produce proposals and implementation plans, lead the change,
  • Fulfil any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Director of Technology and Architecture or the Trust’s management. 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication,
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills,
  • Microsoft office packages, PowerBI,
  • Outstanding attention to detail,
  • Ability to plan ahead and prioritise,
  • Listening and comprehension,
  • Ability to articulate complex problems concisely and clearly present findings and recommendations, including policy changes,
  • Carrying out audits and assessments, making recommendations, monitoring performance,
  • Excellent reporting and presentation to various audiences,
  • Demonstrable ability to design, lead and implement successful data insights initiatives,
  • Ability to challenge constructively and openly receive challenge and feedback,
  • A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience,
  • Demonstrable ability of building and improving data systems and capabilities,
