We are seeking to appoint a full-time dynamic, innovative and inspirational teacher to lead our Business, Health and Social Sciences Department. We are looking for candidates with flair, passion and commitment. Applications are warmly invited from all denominations.
St Thomas More Catholic Academy is an 11-18 mixed Catholic comprehensive school with 1015 students on roll which has an excellent reputation throughout the area. On 1 November 2013 St Thomas More together with four primary academies formed the All Saints' Catholic Collegiate (MAC).
Business Studies and Health and Social Care are both extremely popular at KS4. Currently Business Studies is offered as a GCSE (Edexcel) and is taught as a three year course, being assessed at the end of Year 11. In September 2018 Business Studies will also offer a vocational route for students. As part of the department’s vocational curriculum the Cambridge National Certificate in Health and Social Care is taught as a three year course.
St Thomas More is part of the Trinity Sixth Form. AQA A-level Business, Psychology and Sociology are taught at St Thomas More as a two year linear A-level course with students taking all of their external exams at the end of the course. The Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care was introduced in September 2017, with delivery of year two commencing in September 2018.
Continuous professional learning for staff is a high priority and we are constantly improving our training provision to maximise the positive effect it has on all of our learners.
We have regular afternoon sessions ring-fenced for staff development time, together with programmes aimed at those who want to have an impact beyond their own classroom.
NQTs benefit from a Professional Studies programme run collaboratively across Stoke-on-Trent secondary schools and academies. Alongside the support from their Subject Mentor and Induction Tutor, the programme aims to provide practical learning experiences which are readily applicable to classroom practice in city schools and academies.
