Rickmansworth School is an 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with nearly 1400 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next five years. Academic results are strong at KS4 and KS5 with the vast majority of students securing their first choice university destinations.

The School is in a very strong, stable financial position with over £6M recently spent on school expansion including a new Sixth-form centre, performing arts theatres and an Innovation & Design Centre. The School is also supported extremely well by a fantastic PTA and Foundation. Our outstanding staff well-being programme includes fortnightly well-being periods, access to our fitness suite and swimming pool, flu vaccinations and complimentary eye tests. The School’s admissions criteria gives preference to staff members’ children.

This is a middle leadership post to lead the Business Studies & Economics Department and the candidate appointed will join a friendly, welcoming and well-organised department in a thriving school. This post would be ideally suited to an creative, passionate and highly qualified teacher who is motivated, shows commitment to self-improvement to oneself,  their team and to the extracurricular life of the department and School.


The successful candidate will:

Lead the Business Studies and Economics department by providing a professional, positive, pro-active and creative approach

Be an excellent teacher of Business Studies and Economics and model best practice for others in the team

Model excellent learning and teaching

Being an aspirational leader in order to introduce new and exciting courses to supplement the syllabus

Potentially lead curriculum change across the School by successfully working with and across key subject areas

About the Department:

Business studies is a popular option subject, attracting high numbers at both KS4 and KS5, delivering the AQA specification at both GCSE and A levels. Economics is an established and extremely popular A level course with excellent results, following the Pearson Edexcel specification.

The department prides itself on its high standards and excellent results at both KS4 and KS5.  The successful candidate must be able to deliver Business studies to a high level and work within, and contribute to, established frameworks for lesson planning, delivery and evaluation, student behaviour and care, and student assessment.

This role would provide an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and outstanding business studies and economics teacher who wishes to further develop their career in a successful school with outstanding behaviour.
