Head of Department: Art
The British School in Colombo (BSC) is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and dedicated practitioner to become an integral part of our vibrant and multicultural community in the Senior School. The right candidate will bring enthusiasm and professionalism to the art department, and raise the profile of art within Key Stage 3. Their passion and teaching will encourage more students to take art at IGCSE and A Level.
Due to current visa restrictions, this position is only suitable for applicants who possess the right to reside and work in Sri Lanka.
Key Responsibilities
- Re-invigorate our senior school students’ journey in art, fostering enthusiasm and understanding of various art forms, techniques, and histories.
- Work with a small team of art educators, setting the standard for excellence and ensuring that our teaching and learning is engaging, effective, and empowering.
- Strategically develop and enhance the art programme, aiming to elevate the arts' prominence within the school community.
- Facilitate students' preparation for successful achievement in IGCSE & A Level Art, encompassing curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and assessment protocols.
- Organise and oversee art exhibitions, competitions, and events that highlight our students’ creativity and achievements, connecting with Sri Lanka’s vibrant art scene and numerous city galleries to enrich our programme.
Requirements
- A degree in Art, Fine Arts, Design or a closely related field, accompanied by a teaching qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in art education at the secondary level, evidenced by a solid record of fostering student engagement and success.
- Exceptional talent in various art mediums and techniques, with a personal commitment to the arts.
- Experience in leading or significantly contributing to art programmes, with a flair for curricular innovation and development.
- A student-centred, committed, responsible, and reliable approach to teaching, capable of inspiring and uplifting students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Outstanding organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the capability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Established in 1994, BSC provides private education from EYFS to A Levels. We are the the only school in Sri Lanka accredited by British Schools Overseas (BSO), and a member of FOBISIA.
