New Horizons Federation is a hard federation of two special schools, Oakwood and Westbrooke Schools, for pupils with social emotional and mental health issues and the Bexley Pupil Referral Service at Pathways Short Stay School. The Federation also provides a range of services to school stakeholders and the Local Authority through an Outreach Service, Counselling Psychology Service and group and individual intervention programmes.

The New Horizons Federation is entering an exciting new phase and we currently have a vacancy for an experienced teacher to lead our Science ad Maths department. The role will include teaching KS 3 & 4 Science including GCSE. The new Head of Science and Maths will also oversee the department of our strong Maths department. This is an opportunity for an experienced and skilled practitioner to make a real difference to children’s lives. A proven background in managing challenging behaviour alongside evidence of securing successful academic outcomes are essential requirements.

If you have enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to work with some of the most vulnerable and complex young people in our community, we would welcome your application. High aspirations and a relentless approach towards excellence are the key skills we are looking for in our new Head of Science/Maths.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.
