Head of Design and Engineering (Senior School)
Closing Date: 6th September 2019
Start Date: August 2020
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a well-qualified and inspirational Head of Design and Engineering.
Founded in partnership between NLCS (UK) and Sobha, North London Collegiate School [Singapore] will open its doors in August 2020. We are excited to be bringing the ambitious and inspirational NLCS ethos to the dynamic and exciting location of Singapore.
The School will provide the same impressive range of extra-curricular activities for which North London Collegiate School (UK), NLCS Jeju and NLCS Dubai, are well known, to foster the holistic development of well-rounded individuals.
The school will be purpose built, boasting impressive, state-of-the-art facilities; construction is already underway and on target for completion in February 2020.
STEM education is highly valued at our school, and the Design and Engineering curriculum will sit at the heart of what we do. We intend to produce a bespoke curriculum that focuses upon the iterative design process, and one where prototype production is not limited by materials. Applicants should be excited at the prospect of curriculum design.
The Head of Design and Engineering will have extensive experience and success designing and implementing a dynamic and relevant curriculum for a variety of contexts, managing and coaching classroom teachers, and directing, as appropriate, the work of those colleagues to ensure successful and effective teaching and learning. It is essential that the Head of Design and Engineering has the ability to communicate substantial knowledge in, and passion for the subject area.
The successful candidate will have an international outlook and an appreciation of the richness that a diversity of cultures brings to a school. The appointee will have considerable experience in teaching all secondary age groups, with a demonstrable passion for their subject and a commitment to the development of Design and Engineering more broadly. He / she will be educated to degree level or above and will be an outstanding practitioner who has a proven ability to lead by example and can manage, inspire and motivate others in delivering high quality teaching and learning.
Previous experience of the IB Middle Years Programme and/or the IB Diploma are an advantage, but of prime importance is an ability to motivate and inspire students and lead staff in order to ensure that academic provision is consistently of the highest standard.
The appointee will manage all aspects of teaching and learning, in keeping with the overall aims of the School. They will also be responsible for supporting members of the department in all appropriate ways, ensuring that they work together as a cohesive and collegiate team in effectively addressing the aims and priorities of the School.
We believe that NLCS [Singapore] represents a unique opportunity for teachers. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation allowance, annual flights, health insurance, and free places at the school for up to two dependent children. We also provide first-class professional development through the established NLCS educational community and a variety of external providers. An annual HSBC report has named Singapore as the best location in the world for expatriates to live and work, for four consecutive years.
Whilst we enjoy excellent facilities in a prime location, it is our people that will make our School such an inspirational place. If you are interested in joining our team please submit a completed application form, an up to date CV, and a covering letter of application that focuses on your personal educational philosophy. Applications should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org .
The deadline for applications is 6th September 2019. However, please note that an appointment may be made prior to the closing date if an exceptional candidate is found.
