King’s Bruton is an HMC co-educational boarding and day school of 360 pupils aged 13-18. 

An inspirational, innovative and passionate Head of Design and Technology is required to lead this successful department from May/ September 2022. The successful applicant will be a well-qualified and experienced teacher of Design and Technology with either a specialist or DT related degree. 

The successful candidate will run a department with good GCSE and A Level uptake and strong academic results. In recent years the subject has benefitted from significant investment, with the department enjoying fantastic facilities and resources. Pupils have recently gone on to pursue DT/ Engineering related courses at university, with a pupil awarded an Arkwright Scholarship in 2021.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher of Design and Technology looking for either their first Head of Department post, or for a current Head of Department looking for the next step in their career and an opportunity to run a vibrant and well-resourced department with motivated and engaged pupils. The successful applicant will take sole responsibility for the running of the department and the delivery of GCSE and A Level Design and Technology at King’s. They will benefit from excellent facilities/ resources, as well as the expertise and support of two DT Technicians.

We will also accept applications from candidates considering both a May/ September 2022 start, or an earlier date should the successful candidates notice period allow.

King’s Bruton is a mixed independent school with sixth form in the Somerset town of Bruton. Students attend the school from the ages of 13 to 18, with the option to board throughout their school careers. There are approximately 370 students on roll. The Somerset school operates in partnership with Hazlegrove Preparatory School, in nearby Sparkford.

King’s Bruton was founded as a boys' school in 1519, admitting girls in the late 1960s before becoming fully co-educational in 1997.
