Job overview

Due to our aspirational plans, the Arbor School seeks a passionate, inspired and innovative  leader of Design and Technology to join our school in January 2020 or earlier if possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team of an extraordinary ecological school in Dubai, based on the National Curriculum for England with a core philosophy centred upon ecoliteracy, sustainability and environmental justice. The facilities are truly unique, and include six biodomes, learning gardens, maker-spaces and extensive provision for both sports and the arts.

The successful candidate will lead on the continued development of the Design and Technology programme across the school, as well as delivering Design and Technology lessons either specifically or as a part of our project-based learning programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring or current leader, with the phased expansion of our facilities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the design, development and resourcing of the design and technology faculty. This includes a planned resistant materials department, the amazing eco-maker space, the middle school food technology facilities and the planned upper - secondary school facilities. A truly visionary leader will be inspired by this opportunity to integrate design and technology into the fabric of a school which embraces innovative practises at its core. As the Arbor School continues to grow its secondary school, the Head of Design and Technology may have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the school and, for the right candidate, potentially fulfil a leadership role in the wider secondary school.

The Arbor school currently benefits from a truly unique eco-maker space, which is well resourced with a range of resources including fifteen 3D printers, robotics kits, SAM electronic and STEAM kits, Sphero robotics systems, a 1 -1 iPad programme; as well as a brand new Apple Mac design suite and KS2/3 Food Technology kitchen. Shortlisted candidates will be expected to deliver a brief presentation outlining their proposal for the development and resourcing of the proposed learning spaces, describing how students will access and utilise the D&T facilities, and how they intend to ensure that design thinking is integrated into the teaching and learning at Arbor. As an inclusive school, the proposed pathways for our students include BTech and ASDAN qualifications, and therefore knowledge of these programmes, and the provision required for each, would be a significant advantage.

We therefore invite applications from exceptionally hard working and motivated educators, who are excited by the opportunity to take an important role in shaping a truly outstanding and unique education. We seek educators who are passionate and curious, who can form excellent relationships with colleagues, parents and students, and value the wellbeing of their students, above all else. Arbor teachers can expect to be part of the formative years of a unique school, crafting a bespoke and unique learning experience, which places the power of inquiry at the centre, so that learners are engaged in authentic experiences, which are balanced by classrooms and a curriculum that are  masterful in nature, rigorous in application and highly personalised
