Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and inspirational teacher of Design and Technology to lead our successful department. Design and Technology enjoys a strong reputation within the school and is a popular choice at GCSE. The department boasts well-equipped teaching rooms including two dedicated rooms for Food Technology and Textiles and a Resistant Materials workshop.

The person we are seeking will:

  • be passionate about teaching Design and Technology and be able to bring energy, enthusiasm and new ideas to the work of the department
  • be a successful classroom practitioner across all age and ability ranges and be able to use this experience to develop the practice of others
  • have the vision and drive to secure continued improvements in standards of student achievement and enjoyment across all Key Stages
  • have high expectations of the learning, achievement and progress of all students
  • be able to demonstrate proven leadership skills and a track record of inspiring and motivating students and staff.


Little Heath School is a highly successful comprehensive school (1650 on roll, including 380 in the Sixth Form) situated in a pleasant semi-rural setting to the west of Reading, with good access to road and rail links. As a school, we pride ourselves on our strong Professional Development programme, believing that teachers need to be able to develop their own practice collaboratively with others. We have recently been awarded the prestigious Research Mark award in recognition of the quality of evidence-based research in our work.
