Job overview

Wycombe Abbey is a full boarding school which provides an outstanding all-round education for girls aged 11 to 18.

We are looking for an experienced and energetic Design Technology specialist to lead a rapidly expanding and developing department. This is an exciting time for the Design Technology Department, with investment, confidence and commitment to STEM being priorities at Wycombe Abbey. The successful applicant will be expected to shape the vision of the department so that it continues to adapt and develop in the changing educational environment. Uptake at iGCSE is small but increasing, and the Department needs a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to build on the current upswing in popularity.

There are 2 specialist teachers and a technician in the Department, with 4 teachers from other departments also currently teaching Design Technology lessons. Our DT workshop has a traditional range of well-maintained machinery and tools, plus 2 laser cutters and a class set of computers. The Department has recently expanded into a newly-developed Product Design workshop, with 3-D printers, an additional laser cutter and a suite of iMacs facilitating high-quality portfolios for iGCSE and A Level.

Wycombe Abbey has its own salary scale which is well above that of the maintained sector.

Please complete an application form and submit this, together with a covering letter, to the Headmistress, Mrs J Duncan by emailing the Interim Human Resources Manager, Miss K Scorer scorerk@wycombeabbey.com Further details are found under ‘Vacancies’ on the School website: www.wycombeabbey.com

Closing date: Monday 31 January 2022

Interviews: Monday 7 February 2022

Wycombe Abbey School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

We are an equal opportunities employer. Registered Charity No. 310638

Wycombe Abbey is committed to maintaining full boarding for the needs of modern families. Girls who enter the school at 11+ have their own Junior Boarding House. From the age of 11 to 18, pupils live in nine mixed-age Senior Houses, and in the Upper Sixth girls move into Clarence House, a purpose-built study-bedroom complex.

Many co-curricular and enrichment opportunities are on offer for girls across the age range. Our sports teams regularly reach national finals and the sports department offers more than 30 sports on a consistent basis. Our music department teaches more than 600 individual lessons a week and nearly every pupil plays an instrument if not two. The drama provision is equally impressive with numerous productions happening annually.

The School is ideally located to be able to enjoy a wide variety of activities with other independent schools including Eton, Harrow and Radley. The boys join the girls for dinners and dances. We also enjoy close relationships with the two boys’ grammar schools in High Wycombe, with our pupils and theirs co-operating in choirs, an annual Management Conference and other social and academic events.
