Nelson and Colne College Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning & Accrington & Rossendale College. 

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic leader to join our Foundations and High Needs sector as Head of the Division.  This is a full-time permanent role, working  Monday - Friday.  

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the College Leadership Team and take responsibility for the quality of teaching, learning and assessment throughout the Foundations & High Needs Division.

Main duties include:

• Lead a highly ambitious curriculum offer for all foundation learners studying at entry level and level 1 and for high needs learners on discrete provision.

• Lead a high performing team of foundation teachers and high needs specialists to continue to develop and deliver a rich and varied career focused curriculum that is individually tailored to meet learners’ needs and that leads them to successful outcomes and their intended destinations.

• Work collaboratively with the Head of English and Maths to ensure all foundation and high needs learners develop English and maths and attain qualifications in order to achieve their aspirational destinations.

• Establish strong working relationships with partner organisations such as the Local Authority, Special Schools, Employers and Health agencies in order to develop and maintain a highly effective transition and work placement opportunities for foundation and high needs learners.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree in a relevant subject area (Essential)

• A recognised teaching qualification (Essential)

• A higher degree or management qualification (Desirable) 

• Knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully for 3 years or more (Essential)

• Evidence of successful staff management and the ability to inspire and motivate others

• Evidence of developing new curriculum models that deliver outstanding outcomes and are cost effective.

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
