A rarely available opportunity has arisen at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School for an inspirational Drama specialist to lead this outstanding Department. The successful candidate will demonstrate a dynamic and creative approach to teaching, a passion for Drama and Theatre. They will have the necessary skills and vision to enhance further the Performing Arts in this school recognised for its outstanding provision across the arts.

The Head of Drama works closely with the Director of Music, Head of Dance and Head of Technical Theatre; other team members include a Teacher of Drama, Dance and Music and a full time Performing Arts Technician.

The Drama department teaches Drama at KS3 GCSE and A Level including the technical units. Results are outstanding. The Head of Drama leads a wide range of extracurricular activities after school and puts on productions for juniors and seniors. Recent productions include King Charles III, Oklahoma!, Sweeney Todd, and An Enemy of the People; they take regular theatre trips as part of the inspirational learning programme for students. Drama students progress to Guildhall, RADA, Universities and training,

The Performing Arts are central to the school’s culture with the Drama, Music, Dance and Technical Theatre working collaboratively and as separate, specialist departments. Awarded specialist status for Performing Arts in 2005, the school has continued to grow and develop its thriving arts curriculum.

Every child in Key Stage 3 studies Drama, Dance and Music for an hour a week taught by specialists and all three subjects are popular GCSE and A Level choices for girls and boys. A Level 3 Btech in Production Arts and Technical Theatre is delivered by a specialist teacher and many Drama A Level students choose to follow this course to enrich their learning.

At GCSE we follow the Eduqas specification and for A Level Edexcel. Results are consistently outstanding at both GCSE and A Level. Examination practical performances are of the highest quality and shared with parents in the theatre.

The Head of Drama is also responsible for leading annual school productions for juniors and seniors and for leading/ facilitating student-led Drama clubs at lunch time. The TLR recognises this commitment.

Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school in the attractive Thames-side town of Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Founded in 1624 and still based on the original site, we are proud of our heritage as we approach our 400th birthday and excited to be inspiring and empowering the aspirations of our students today.
