Role Profile

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Drama. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspirational and passionate teacher to join our talented team. Port Regis is widely considered one of the country’s leading prep schools and recently received an outstanding ISI inspection report. But there is no resting on laurels, and we are ambitious to move the school forwards, blending our strong traditions with innovative new ideas.

Applications are invited from candidates who are forward-thinking and big-hearted, who model great drive and enthusiasm. The successful applicant will be an inspirational drama teacher, with a strong track record.

The successful candidate will play a vital part in shaping drama and performing acts across the School. They will be responsible for the vision, delivery, effectiveness and quality of the school’s curricular and co-curricular drama and performing arts provision, including regular school productions.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a love of drama and performing arts and commitment to nurturing talent and delivering results to ensure that all pupils reach their full potential. They will have expertise across different genres and styles and be able to adapt their style to inspire all Port Regis children. 

Port Regis’ Centenary Hall hosts a 350-seat theatre, equipped with a lighting and sound box, and the ‘Green Room’ for costume changes and rehearsals. We also have an outdoor theatre in our Walled Garden for Summer productions.

Given the range of academic and co-curricular programmes run at Port Regis, understanding and working collaboratively with colleagues, to deliver results ensuring that all pupils reach their full potential, is an essential part of the role. 

Remuneration and Benefits

Port Regis has its own competitive salary scale and pension options, details of which will be discussed at interview or can be requested from our HR Manager. Salaries may be enhanced by a generous allowance for staff who play a full part in the life of this busy boarding school. Accommodation may also be made available on site for candidates who would like to contribute to boarding duties (please contact the HR Manager for further details). The successful candidate can also expect:

Start Date

September 2023 is preferred but we would consider a January 2024 start for the right candidate.

Hours of Work

This post is full time (Monday to Saturday with a half day off each week) term time only. Applications from candidates wishing to work part-time will be considered, please specify your preferred working arrangements in your covering letter.
