Job overview

Are you a talented and dynamic teacher with a passion for drama? Do you have strong leadership skills and can you deliver exceptional teaching and learning across Key Stages 3-5? If so, you are just the person we are looking for to lead our drama department and to develop the confidence and performance skills of our students.

The Drama department is one of the flagship subjects in the academy with academic success that is unparalleled by all other subjects and the most amazing whole school productions. We pride ourselves on our inclusive nature and we welcome performers of all ages and abilities to participate in our studies, productions, show cases and musicals. Participation is at the heart of our ethos. As well as running GCSEs and A Levels In the last two years we have also run LAMDA qualifications for all our learners from KS3 to KS5 to reward their wonderful talent in a pure performance setting.

In 2014/5 we ran two groups of Year 11 GCSE students of whom 84% made expected progress with 51% making beyond expected progress. In the current Year 10 we have 67 students taking the subject and three GCSE group and in Year 11 we have 57 students and two groups. There are teaching groups in both years 12 and 13 with 21 students studying the subject in the Sixth Form. The ALPS scores for both AS and A2 were graded 2 2014/5 which is in line with previous years and places the department in the top 2-10% of Drama departments nationally.

The department consists of a highly experienced SLE (Specialist Leader of Education) and a highly skilled English/Drama specialist who teaches across both subjects. The successful applicant will need to be an outstanding practitioner in their own right to command the respect of the department and successfully build a team. We also recognise there is a need to ensure that the department is at the forefront of pedagogical development and embraces a range of teaching approaches to ensure that students find learning a highly engaging experience. We always put the students first and are committed to help them enjoy their Drama as much as we all do!
