Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding committed teacher of Drama to join a small and successful department to ensure that every student makes outstanding progress and attains highly.

Manningtree High School is a popular, successful, semi rural secondary school with a strong community feel. We are a mixed, fully comprehensive school serving the local area and work closely with primary and post-16 partners as well as other local secondary schools.  The school is set in a pleasant location only 10 miles from the centre of Colchester and close to the Suffolk border. We currently have around 850 11-16 students on roll.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and dedicated Head of Drama to start in January 2020.  The Drama Department at Manningtree consists of a Head of Department and one other full-time teacher.

Drama is currently taught in a Drama studio and a traditional school hall with a proscenium arch stage.  However, we are in the process of building a large purpose built Performing Arts block which will be completed by March 2020.  This brand new building will consist of a drama studio and a large activity studio.  The successful candidate will be involved in final planning of fitting these new rooms out.

The school holds academy status and offers an excellent induction and ongoing staff development.  We are part of Alpha Multi Academy Trust which has a sixth form provision.

Our students are well behaved and motivated and examination results are very good.

Drama is a popular subject at Manningtree with good exam results.

As a school, alongside academic success, we emphasise the importance of developing the whole person and developing a tremendous sense of community spirit.

If you are ambitious and keen to see young people succeed then please apply.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

To arrange a visit, please contact Carol Sinclair, Director of Operations at the school.

Closing date:  9am 23rd October 2019 Interviews will take place the same week.  We reserve the right to close this early if suitable applications are received.

Manningtree High School is a warm and welcoming learning community. We are ambitious for our students and our staff.

The school is situated close to areas of natural beauty on the Essex/Suffolk border. We have a comprehensive intake who travel from a wide area around: we are consistently oversubscribed.

The continuous improvement of teaching and learning is important to us and we want to recruit staff who love their profession and are energised by helping young people gain knowledge and skills. Our students are well behaved and enjoy belonging to MHS. Pastoral care is a real strength.

The school was last inspected in 2018 and our ‘Good’ status was confirmed. We have continued to develop strengths in curriculum delivery, design and assessment since then.

On the 1st September 2019 Manningtree High School became a member of the Alpha Trust, joining the Gilberd School, Colchester County High School for Girls, Home Farm Primary School and the planned Trinity School in that Multi Academy Trust.
