Our Schools and Education Department is a big part of Children’s Services and we have a proud record of achievement in supporting our children and young people, with a particular focus on the most deprived or vulnerable. We were delighted with our ‘Good’ Ofsted judgment in 2017 as it recognised the hard work and commitment our teams bring to their work every day, but now we want more! Together with our newly appointed Director of Children’s Services & Education, you will lead on improving outcomes for all of our children throughout the Borough through Education.

Building on our already established and effective partnership working, you will be ready to transform the service we provide to our schools throughout. You will engage with Schools, Partners, and colleagues to ensure that children and young people have access to the highest quality of educational opportunities.

Our Schools have spoken loud and clear and they want a personal and dedicated approach from our new Head of Education, so you will be our single point of contact working side by side with our Headteachers and School Leaders to drive forward improvements in areas such as School Effectiveness, Inclusion and SEND and Post 16 provision.

We are looking for a credible education professional who can demonstrate substantial leadership experience at a senior level who will be part of the management team and deputise for the Director when necessary on education matters.

You will have experience of working in education or children’s services and will be able to demonstrate your commitment to educational excellence and understanding of the needs of our schools, working closely with other services to enhance the life chances and opportunities for children and young people in the borough.

This role is not without its challenges, but if you are willing to lead a team who will tackle them head on and grow as the role grows, you will be rewarded and gratified by the difference you will make to our children.
