We’re looking for a Head of Education to join The Falkland House School Team. Someone who can lead by example and can provide inspiration and motivation to our staff and students would be perfect for this role.


About the School

Falkland House School specialises in providing integrated education and care to boys aged 8-19 on the Autistic Spectrum with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, ADHD and Tourette’s syndrome, as well as a number of other conditions.

They may find it difficult to cope in a mainstream educational environment and their difficulties might also impact on interpersonal relationships in other aspects of their lives, particularly with their peer group and at home. We provide residential and day places to boys from early primary to aged 18, with residential placements of both 39 weeks and 52 weeks offered.

The school has a well-established reputation for excellence in the quality of its service provision and for achieving positive educational and socially inclusive outcomes. We intend that our pupils should be happy and fulfilled through involvement in rewarding learning experiences, within an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance and goodwill.

About the Role

Working with the Principal, you will provide an educational vision and direction that secures effective teaching, successful learning an achievement of students. To prepare our young people for adult life, we need to develop their personal, social and practical skills to give them the best opportunities possible. You will formulate the overall aims and objectives of the school in accordance with our Mission statement and development plan.

Being the exemplar of teaching in the school will be essential and you will ensure all involved are committed to the aims and motivated to achieve targets to secure educational success of our students. Our staff team will be supported in the production of effective lesson preparation and you will monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching across the school. Our aim is to create and maintain an environment that enables good teaching, effective learning and good behaviour to help teachers meet the standards set out in our professional development framework. 


Who we are looking for

We are looking to hear from individuals with the ability and ambition to inspire a multi-disciplinary team to deliver outstanding learning for children and young people with special education needs. Our Head of Education must have good communication skills and the ability to lead and manage strategically is vital.

We want someone who places a focus on the positive outcomes of our children and takes responsibility for helping improve the lives of our young people. While experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs is desirable, excellent leadership skills, the right motivation and personal qualities are just as important. 


Essential Criteria

  • Must have lead improvement in an Educational setting.
  • Ability to work collegiately to inspire change.
  • Must have excellent administrative skills.
  • Have up to date knowledge of key National Priorities, specifically related to ASL.
  • Meet the new legal registration requirements to work in the Independent School Sector, Scotland.
  • Have proven record of working constructively with parents and partner agencies.
  • Be committed to continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrable experience in raising both achievement and attainment.
  • Must have experience of working within a setting delivering integrated Education and Care.

Falkland House School is an in independent residential school for boys from primary to aged 18 years.  Our pupils have a range of Additional Support Needs including emotional and behavioural difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.  We were the first independent school in Scotland (outside of the NAS) to receive accreditation from the National Autistic Society.
