Nacro have an exciting vacancy for a Head of Education in Medway Secure Training Centre.  

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to become part of the innovative, warm and welcoming school at the very centre of Medway Secure training facility. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic leader with an FE or schools background who would like to broaden their experience in managing and working with vulnerable young people across a secure training centre.   

This high profile role will manage an education team of qualified staff to provide a meaningful and dynamic core and vocational curriculum to young people aged between 12 and 17 years old who have been sentenced or remanded in custody. 

The Head of Education has a major role in the Senior Management Team and will work closely with the Assistant Principal for Nacro and the Medway STC Governor to provide vision, leadership and direction for the continuing development of Education and Training at Medway STC. 

With a professional background in education, experience of staff leadership and management, and an understanding of the youth justice sector and challenges young people face you will ensure delivery of a broad and balanced offer that enables all young people to progress, achieve, develop their personal and employability skills and gives them the tools they need to successfully resettle in the community.  

You will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to create meaningful relationships with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve good outcomes for young people.  

The successful candidate should have:

  • A PGCE (or equivalent qualification)
  • GCSE English, mathematics and ICT (or equivalent qualifications at level 2 or above)
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the Ofsted Common Inspection Framework and framework for the Inspections of Secure Training Centres  
  • DBS & Secure Training Centre Vetting required including 5 years reference history.
