Head of English and Whole School Literacy
L10 £51,311
September 2020
The governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and effective Leader of English, who can share their enthusiasm and expertise with our success-hungry students and work with our dedicated team of 10 English teachers in their pursuit of excellence.
Shirebrook Academy has been housed in ‘State of the Art’ buildings since 2013.
On 1st May 2017 we joined ACET (Aston Community Education Trust) which further strengthens our capacity to improve opportunities for all our students and staff.
We are looking for a person with the drive, creativity and vision to be able to give clear direction to the team and motivate students to be the best that they can be. The successful candidate will be well supported by the Senior Leadership Team and the ACET English Consultant. The priority will initially be the leadership of the English Department and Whole School Literacy but there is potential for the right candidate to move into a broader Senior Leadership role over time with appropriate increased remuneration.
This is an exciting opportunity for a successful professional with Middle Leadership experience who is looking to take their first steps towards a senior role.
According to an African proverb, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’. Similarly, it takes a whole school to educate a child with everyone in the school community playing a vital role. Educating a child is a collective endeavour, at Shirebrook Academy we stand and fall as a team, we celebrate each other’s success and we take collective responsibility and support each other when we fail.
This Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are also an equal opportunities Employer.

Shirebrook Academy opened its doors to students in September 2010. The Academy is a forward thinking innovative organisation at the heart of the community. We moved into purpose built, state of the art buildings in April 2013. In May 2017 we joined ACET (Aston Community Education Trust), a growing and successful Multi Academy Trust, which will enable us to continue our development with the support of a larger organisation.
According to an African proverb, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’. Similarly, it takes a whole school to educate a child with everyone in the school community playing a vital role. Educating a child is a collective endeavour, we stand and fall as a team, we celebrate each other’s success and we take collective responsibility and support each other when we fail. So, it doesn’t matter what your specific role is at Shirebrook Academy, your chief responsibility is to make sure that every student has the best possible experience of school and is able to be the best that they can be.
Professional Learning and developing staff to be future leaders is a key element of our work and fundamental to our success. Governors are committed to developing the leaders of the future and we are proud of the high number of staff who have gained promotion internally and externally.
