Hartland International School seeks to appoint an exceptional and dynamic, well-qualified Head of English as an Additional Language to lead this area of the school. At present, 61% of the school population is on the EAL register but this is in the context of a high performing academic environment.

Located in the heart of Dubai, in a developing residential community, Hartland’s unique vantage point is the iconic landmark of the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and Downtown Business area of the city. The school will operate from Foundation Stage to Year 11 in the academic year 2020 and anticipates natural year on year growth in the secondary section in the coming years. We offer the National Curriculum for England and plan to offer GCSE’s / IGCSE’s, ‘A’ Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The school was recently awarded the Patrons Accreditation and Compliance Award from COBIS, The Challenge Award from NACE and is a member of BSME.
Applications are invited from teachers who are outstanding practitioners and are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in a vibrant learning environment, helping us build a successful English as an Additional Language programme. The successful candidate will be required to show leadership in securing standards of excellence in teaching and learning and will have the necessary skills needed to develop a curriculum which will stimulate and motivate students to achieve.
Candidates must be able to develop and deliver training to staff members on differentiation and scaffolding techniques, in order to support EAL learners across the whole school. They must also be able to track data in order to update staff as to student requirements. There is a very strong enrichment programme at the school and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this, joining a committed and exceptional staff group.
As a member of the Hartland team, you will share in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care and will be someone who can thrive on the challenge of growing a new school and community.
The successful candidate will:
- hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
- have an EAL certificate (ie CELTA/DELTA/ TEFL)
- have experience teaching the National Curriculum for England or IB whether that be in the UK or in an international setting
- be able to instruct and deliver training to staff on differentiation/ scaffolding for EAL learners
- have a minimum 5 years’ teaching experience
- experience with WIDA English Language Assessment tool
- collaborate with teachers throughout the school to deliver high quality support to EAL students
- exceptional communication skills
- be committed to the Hartland Values
