Job overview

Head of English

We are an outstanding mixed grammar school with an exciting opportunity for an excellent teacher to lead our English faculty.

We can offer you

  • a school full of students who are keen to learn (“Seldom have I seen a school where students are so universally positive and enthusiastic about their learning” – HMI)
  • a strong commitment to your own professional development.
  • opportunities for A level teaching
  • a brand new suite of rooms in which to work.

We would like you

  • to be an outstanding teacher
  • to have high expectations of yourself and our students
  • to have a special ability to bring the best out of your colleagues
  • to be a team player willing to contribute to all aspects of school life.

We have no age or experience profile in mind. There is a possibility that an assistant headteacher post may be available for a successful and experienced subject leader.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a criminal record check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

We are a co-educational selective school in the centre of Aylesbury.  Our roll is currently 1230, including a sixth form of 350. Between forty and sixty sixth formers  join us from other schools in the area. We serve a very wide area – most of North Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

Our facilities and examination results have improved significantly in recent years. Almost all our students go to university when they leave us – many to competitive universities including a handful to Oxford and Cambridge.

Parents regularly tell us that we do an excellent job of turning out well-rounded young adults who are prepared to make a great success of their adult lives. Our relationships are important to us – because we know that our students will learn better when they are feeling good about themselves.

Historically we have had specialisms in performing arts, science and leadership. All have left their legacy in our culture.
