Job overview
Cromwell Community College, a member of the Active Learning Trust, is a good school which aspires to be outstanding. We want our English Faculty to be a driving force towards this aspiration.
We are looking to appoint an inspirational English teacher to lead the successful and supportive English team at Cromwell Community College.
We are a popular, oversubscribed and successful school. We are currently undergoing a large expansion of the secondary phase by 1FE, but we will also become the first all-through (3-18) school in Cambridgeshire in 2020. It is imperative that we ensure our pupils access a curriculum which is relevant and ambitious throughout their journey at Cromwell. This will require the Head of English to develop a vision for an all through curriculum and to work with Primary colleagues to meet this expectation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is ambitious and wants to work collaboratively with the primary phase in addition to further improve GCSE and A Level outcomes.
At Cromwell, our middle leaders are determined, resourceful and tireless in their pursuit of the best outcomes for all pupils. Staff are hardworking, enthusiastic and committed. This is an excellent time to join the faculty to support the college’s drive to become outstanding.
If you are enthusiastic, ambitious and passionate about English and recognise its importance for the development of all pupils, and will strive to provide excellent results in our already successful faculty, we would like to hear from you.
Cromwell Community College offers the chance to join a strong and experienced team and for you to develop your skills and enhance your career development through a wealth of CPD opportunities which is a particular strength of the Trust.
In line with our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students, appointment will be subject to DBS check and satisfactory references.
Applicants are thanked for their interest in Cromwell Community College. Please note that only candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted. We are unable to accept CVs.

Vision and values
Cromwell Community College has the following core values: care, whereby pupils are encouraged to care not just for themselves but also those around them; respect, whereby tolerance of all cultures and belief systems is considered paramount; and community, whereby students are urged to take pride in their surroundings and their school.
The secondary school works hard to provide for students with special educational needs, of whom there are an above-average number.
Ofsted report
“Pupils enjoy a wide choice of subjects suited to their abilities and interests. The most able pupils are steered towards three sciences, humanities and foreign languages to enable more of them to gain the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) qualification. A small proportion of less-able pupils follow a curriculum matched to their needs and abilities in order to develop their literacy and numeracy, promote their social skills and study qualifications suited to the workplace.”
