Cheney School is a popular, high-performing school located in the heart of Oxford serving a diverse community of students who are eager to learn. The success of the school as an Academy has led to Cheney School expanding into a Multi Academy Trust. English is a high-performing subject within the school, with rates of progress at KS4 for GCSE English Language and English Literature consistently above national averages. At Key Stage 5, we offer A-Level English Literature and Media Studies, both of which are popular post-16 choices and have been significant success stories in recent years. The Key Stage 3 curriculum seeks to provide a stimulating learning experience and one which prepares students for further study.

The English department is made up of staff with diverse interests and backgrounds, including teachers who are new to the profession and those who are more experienced. The team is enthusiastic, works very well together and strives to make English an enjoyable, thought-provoking and varied part of our students’ school life. We are looking for a Head of English to lead the existing team to build on this success. With regards to the strategic importance of this role we hope the successful candidate will have suitable experience to join the Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will be keen to work with staff to deliver an English curriculum that offers challenge and support to all students across all three Key Stages, with excellent teaching and learning across the department.
