Are you looking for the next step in your career? We are looking to recruit an outstanding Head of English with the management skills to lead and develop this successful department from September 2024.

You will be an excellent classroom practitioner and will bring passion and enthusiasm to the role along with the ability to teach engaging and focused lessons. You will hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification, with the required experience, along with the desire and dedication to ensure high standards of pupil progression and attainment.

Our English department:

·     has fully resourced units of work for teachers to adapt and use: there’s no starting from scratch here

·     is at the forefront of developments in the teaching of reading in secondary schools

·     is staffed by specialist teachers

·     has a more generous contact ratio than the national average

·     has a sensible approach to marking and receives support during periods of mock exam marking to make workload manageable

·     benefits from brand new, large interactive whiteboards in every classroom

·     works closely with our wonderfully stocked learning resource centre

·     enjoys weekly shared planning time during the school day

The results achieved by our pupils in recent years have improved significantly but we are not complacent. Come and join us for the next steps of our exciting journey.

Alderwood is an all-through 4-16 school based on three sites, which could offer exciting opportunities for the successful candidate.

If you require further information about the role, please contact Andy Titheridge, Head of School on 01252 343723.

Alderwood School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks. We reserve the right to appoint on application.
