The School is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic teacher of English to lead a dedicated team to greater achievement and success with effect from 1st August 2017. The person appointed will be required to teach throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. You will be able to excite and challenge students to make rapid progress and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising students’ individual achievements with exciting ideas to build on existing good practice. The ideal applicant will have proven leadership qualities, excellent communication and management skills along with a commitment and drive to take the department forwards.

The post provides an ideal opportunity to play a prominent role in middle leadership and make a significant contribution to whole school improvement.

Key Purposes:

  • To provide quality leadership and management of the English Department;
  • To ensure all students have every opportunity to achieve their best possible results in English
  • To ensure that the school’s vision and aims are put into practice and to enable the students to achieve high standards in work and behaviour;

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Leadership and Management of the English Department;
  • Ensure teaching and learning across the department is consistent and up to date. That it is aligned to up to date schemes of work which are relevant and engaging, embracing key developments within the subject.
  • Contribute to whole school initiatives through their middle leadership role.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • To lead the English team, coordinate/oversee the work of the members of the team;
  • To undertake a key role in the development of schemes of work for the English department to ensure a consistent approach.
  • To keep abreast of developments in English at 11-18;
  • To take responsibility for an annual review of the English department, the production of the improvement plan and for any subsequent actions and priorities identified
  • To liaise with the Examinations Officer regarding examination entries, etc;
  • To ensure that an appropriate system for data management and internal departmental tracking is in place and administered appropriately;
  • To oversee for the department the provision for students with Special Needs, including Gifted and Talented and liaise with the learning support coordinator;
