We are looking for an outstanding Head of English with a commitment to academic excellence and helping every child succeed, who will be responsible for teaching and learning in this subject. This is perfect opportunity for an ambitious practitioner who is ready to progress their career into a leadership position.  

Candidates must have a demonstrable commitment to outstanding results and the ability to lead, inspire and motivate others. The Head of English will lead our successful and committed English department to even greater heights than those attained last year.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have experience of teaching at an outstanding level
  • have demonstrable evidence of raising attainment in an urban, multicultural setting  
  • be committed to Ark’s ethos of high expectations and no excuses
  • have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of pupils
  • possess a strong desire to develop an outstanding department by creating a culture where learning is greatly valued by all 
  • have experience of working in a challenging classroom environment, implementing and developing schemes to improve behaviour

Ark Evelyn Grace Academy is an 11-16 mixed secondary school, located at the heart of the London Borough of Lambeth. We are a community school and part of the Ark Network.  Our mission statement is to empower our students to be the voice of their future.  This is based on the belief that each young person is different, difference should be embraced, and each young person has a unique contribution to make and should be given a voice. Through finding their voice, young people can lead empowered lives where they have choice, agency and influence. We are focused on the future as we want our young people to be the face of it.

School Structure

The school has a small leadership team that comprises of the Principal, two Vice Principals and two Assistant Principals. Each subject area is lead by a Head of Department and year groups are led by a Director of Learning (Head of Year).
