Job overview

Head of English Required In A Unique Central London Location

A vibrant, well qualified teacher with an English specialism is required to lead the English curriculum across St Paul’s Cathedral School, starting September 2017. The School is very successful, a happy and supportive place to work and full.

The successful candidate will be joining a fabulous academic team which embraces new ideas, collaboration, hard work and creativity. You will be very well organised, enthusiastic about teaching and learning, keen to continue to develop your own pedagogy and have the drive to develop and lead the strategic direction of the School’s English curriculum.

The right candidate will have either led an English department in a primary/Prep setting, or is looking for their first leadership role.

The Head of English has a slightly reduced timetable. The School’s existing resources are excellent, and new ideas are always welcomed.

Set in the grounds of the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral, you will enjoy the unique experience of school assemblies in what we affectionately call our school chapel.

Working in a friendly, warm environment, you will be involved in the whole life of St Paul’s Cathedral School including sports and activities. You will also have your own vertically integrated tutor group of bright and lively children from Years 3 to 8.

Our parents are genuinely supportive and the salary is highly competitive.

If you think this could be for you, then please complete the application form. You are also very welcome to come and visit us, or to have an informal chat with the Headmaster, Simon Larter-Evans.

Call us on 020 7248 5156, or email Clare Morgan at headspa@spcs.london.sch.uk to arrange.

Closing date for the applications is Monday 5 December 2016.

We will endeavour to hold some interviews before the end of the Autumn term, and some in early January. We reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date.

Further information about the school can be found at:  http://www.spcslondon.com/

Completed applications need to be returned either by email or by post to the school office at the following address:

About St Paul's Cathedral School

St Paul’s Cathedral School is a co-educational, Church of England, independent preparatory day school for around 250 children aged 4-13, located in the City of London. It has boarding provision for St Paul’s Cathedral boy choristers, who sing daily at the cathedral, from the age of seven. From September 2023, girl choristers have begun to sing in the cathedral.

The school is owned by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral; its governing body is made up of five Canons and seven lay members, who are chaired by the Dean. St Paul's can trace its origins back to the 12th century and it existed for several centuries solely to educate the cathedral choristers. It has been co-educational since 2002.
