The Milton Keynes Academy (MKA) is an Academy with strong links in the community. Our Academy is underpinned by an ethos based on “raising aspirations, raising achievement and providing opportunities”, so that we realise our mission of “Everyone Achieves”.

We are a rapidly improving Academy (Ofsted judgement Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management April 2014). We cater for 1400 students aged 11-19. Our aim is to maximise the potential of all our learners and be heart of the community.

The ideal applicant would be an outstanding Teacher of English with a proven track record of raising achievement through excellent and inspirational leadership. They will demonstrate first-rate subject and pedagogical knowledge and an awareness of the changes in the curriculum, along with a strong understanding of data and how it is used to close gaps in achievement. They will be leading and managing a thriving team with a range of experienced, newly qualified and overseas trained teachers.

As the Head of Department your passion and your belief for 'Everyone Achieves' will enable you to use your strategic leadership, ably assisted by three Key Stage Co-ordinators and a Curriculum Assistant in curriculum design and developments in learning and teaching. Your passion for the subject will influence both your team and the students and contribute to a lifelong love of English and employability of our students.

You will be joining an English department that has a proven track record of students making good progress in line or above the national average. We are really pleased with the excellent progress our disadvantage learners make.

The English department is housed in the 'Discover Village' where all classrooms have an Interactive White Board, desktop computer and a visualiser enabling you to deliver engaging lessons. Outside of the classrooms we have a computer suite that can also be utilised. Furthermore, you will benefit from a highly organised curriculum plan where all lessons are planned and stored on the Academy's online curriculum, Moodle.

As an Academy, we are looking for someone who will lead in improving upon our results, instil a culture of resilience, commitment and a desire to succeed; enthusing students and staff to continuously improve and be successful.

The Milton Keynes Academy is a co-educational, non-selective secondary school for students aged 11-18. We are a member of the Creative Education Trust, a charity and multi-academy trust with a network of non-selective primary and secondary state schools.
