Job overview

Incentives available for the right candidate

We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and creative Head of Languages who will lead a team committed to raising the achievements of all our pupils. Oak Lodge School is a school for children aged 11-19 with hearing, speech, language and communication difficulties. Our teachers are at the forefront of innovative educational approaches to develop language and learning in these unique and wonderful children.

SEN 2 £4,073 for a qualified Teacher of the Deaf or + SEN 1 £2,063 for a non-qualified Teacher of the Deaf (training sponsorship for qualification available).

We are a secondary school for the Profoundly Deaf and pupils with language and literacy delay. Our pupils communicate using BSL, SSE and spoken voice. Many of our students have SEB difficulties and some students have more complex needs. The majority of our students are working below the old NC level 3 in both Reading and Writing. Students who progress above this level, usually progress onto an English Functional Skills course.

We are looking for a Primary trained teacher with an interest or experience of TEFL, EAL or Dyslexia and/or a Secondary specialist with experience in SEN. An interest in literacy and language delay, visual teaching methods and any experience of BSL, SSE or Makaton would be preferential.

We have excellent ICT facilities and access to iPads, so an interest in technology to help with literacy development would also be beneficial.

We invite you to become part of our vibrant and engaging learning community, which promotes the highest standards of achievement and character.

We can offer:

  • Support from a senior leadership team that will share your passion to be creative, forward thinking and play an active part in ensuring all our students succeed
  • Competitive salary
  • Small class sizes
  • Fascinating children
  • Personalised professional development package including a funded MA in Deaf Education
  • A warm, enthusiastic and innovative team
