Job overview

St Swithun's Junior School is a leading IAPS school with a total pupil role of approximately 200. Set on an impressive 45 acre campus, the junior school is housed in a state of the art building that opened in September 2015. The adjoining senior school offers day, weekly and full boarding options for 480 girls aged 11-18.

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Head of English to develop and drive forward this key area of the curriculum. The role would suit an existing Head of English, or a teacher who has demonstrated the capacity to step up to a significant Head of Department role. A comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum, from the Early Years to Year 6 and beyond, is critical; as is a broad range of experience.

The Head of English will primarily teach English within Year 5 and/or 6. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to have the responsibility for a Year 5 or Year 6 form.

The closing date for applications is Monday 26 February 2018 (midday)

Interviews will be held on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 March 2018

Please note, applicants must download and complete the school’s application form.

St Swithun’s is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. References will be taken up before interview for shortlisted applicants. The interview will explore issues relating to working with children and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory references and recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check.
