Established in 1889, and with our roots stretching back even further, Morley College London is one of the country's oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. At Morley College London, we provide long-term, sustainable and affordable programmes of lifelong learning across three centres – North Kensington, Chelsea and Waterloo – including 16-19 provision at North Kensington and Chelsea.

Following Morley College’s merger with Kensington and Chelsea College in February 2020, the College has restructured its curriculum to facilitate its ambitious plan for development and growth, with aim of the Chelsea Centre becoming a leading institution for Creative Industries and creative learning as well as addressing the essential skills needs of the local community.

The North Kensington Centre is about to undergo a significant renovation due for a relaunch in September 2022, with a focus upon Applied Science, Health, Education, Business, IT and Community Learning. The centre will continue to operate in the intervening period in its current form predominantly with an adult focus with growth plans for 16-18 curriculum now underway.

The College is now looking to appoint two Head of Essential Skills, one for each Centre, to provide leadership for the Centres and management of the subject areas within Essential Skills.  You will be part of a new leadership team in developing the strategic direction for each centre working collaboratively with Heads of Curriculum to develop a innovative whole centre curriculum offer and provide outstanding opportunities for Essential Skills for our community.

You will promote high student achievement, progression and satisfaction for both adult students and those on 16-19 study programmes and line manage the Subject Leaders in English, Maths & ICT and ESOL.

With a substantial academic background in Essential Skills with an excellent understanding of the diverse needs of adult and 16-18 year old learners and the ability to respond to those needs to support progress, you will have experience of successfully leading and managing a team of teaching staff to raise standards and achievement.

Morley’s Waterloo Centre for Adult Education is one of the UK’s oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education, founded in 1889 by activist, feminist and educationalist Emma Cons.

Our Waterloo Centre is here for the curious – for those who want to learn while joining others in their pursuit of knowledge. It’s a cultural hub for adults.

A place to learn and discuss what you’ve learnt since 1889. Because it’s not just about what you learn – whether it’s a new language, sound engineering, jewellery making, childcare, medicine or maths – it’s about the people you meet along your journey.

Ever since our inception, we’ve believed that education and socialisation go hand in hand. So our Waterloo Centre for Adult Education offers the courses you need to continue your education. It’s a place to continue learning – from us and each other.

Our expert tutors are well-known professionals in their fields, with bags of knowledge and passion. So you could experience learning with artists, musicologists, scientists and more.
