Langley Hall is a large Primary School with 2 main buildings and 3 smaller buildings, in the portfolio. The school is about to acquire an additional building so the new facilities manager will hit the ground running!;

Monday to Friday 08.00 - 17.00

Role & Responsibilities

1. To have a good working knowledge of the layout, set up and workings of each school building.

2. To ensure the safety of all children, young people and vulnerable adults within the school. To complete the annual Safeguarding training and understand and comply with all Safeguarding policies and practices.

3. To carry out regular site visits identifying required repairs and refurbishments.

4. To obtain 3 quotes for each job seeking good quality and best value for money on every occasion.

5. To keep a log of workmen/contractors, reason for choosing them, standard of work and recommendation for future work opportunities.

6. To oversee all refurbishments projects and maintenance tasks drawing up a GANTT chart, liaising with workmen/contractors, caretakers, supply companies and school staff to ensure that works are carried out in a timely and safe manner.

7. To manage the maintenance budget ensuring that it is used wisely throughout the year.

8. To draw up and update a 5 year rolling maintenance plan for all buildings for discussing with the Executive Head.

9. To provide reports to governors on maintenance issues, works and costs as required.

10.To build up a “bank” of reputable, reliable, high quality services/contractors to call upon.

11.To set up and administer the annual maintenance contracts for fire alarms, lifts, legionnaires, security systems etc.

12. To arrange staff training as required.

13. To write risk assessments for all works.

14. To respond quickly to emergencies that occur on both school premises.

15. To line manage both caretakers and cleaners providing training and support as required.

Person Specification

1. Demonstrate experience in facilities management, including contract management, tendering, business development and continuity planning.

2. Proven track record of leading a support services team.

3. Excellent people management and communication skills.

4. Experience of budget management and cost control.

5. Extensive experience of client liaison with ability to influence but also act with tact and diplomacy.

6. Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively. Able to find pragmatic solutions and adapt to changing situations.

7. Excellent presentation skills both spoken and written

8. Up to date knowledge of current H&S legislation and applying them through appropriate policies and procedures.

9. Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

10.Ability to make quick and effective decisions – able to multi-task with an eye for detail.

11.Positive attitude and able to motivate others – good listener, approachable and supportive.
