Head of Faculty: Science

MPS/UPS + Allowance £4000 (a leadership contract - up to an L5 - may be available for a suitably experienced candidate)

Start date: September 2018

We need someone exceptional. You will be passionate, people orientated and entirely credible. You will already have had some form of middle management experience, and you will be eager and ready to turn our department into an area of excellence. There are green shoots emerging, and a mastery curriculum is beginning to take hold, but there is a now a real need to accelerate the regeneration of this subject area into something exciting and creative. 

The Science department consists of a suite of seven labs and an additional classroom as a dedicated IT suite. We have five full-time science specialists all have a passion for their subject and good subject knowledge. This is a new role, and you will be an additional teacher. We also have a full time, very knowledgeable science technician. The team have developed skills in data handling, and this is beginning to have an impact regarding raising standards. The team are in the process of devising a mastery curriculum, use PIXL resources and interventions extensively in planning and delivery, and they are actively involved in CREST and STEAM initiatives. 

There are strong external links and partnerships with businesses to enhance delivery of the curriculum plus many natural resources right on our doorstep. We teach AQA Separate Sciences and AQA Combined Science (Trilogy).

• You will receive a MacBook Pro and an iPad to help you plan your lessons and develop and deliver professional resources and presentations.

About Fowey River Academy

Fowey River Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school situated in Fowey, Cornwall. There are approximately 684 students at the school, between the ages of 11-16.

Fowey River Academy was established in 1692 as Fowey Free School, opening to 30 pupils from low income families. The school has since been a boarding and grammar school throughout the years. In 2014, it received academy status, changing its name from Fowey Community College to Fowey River Academy.
