St Paul’s Way Trust School is seeking to appoint a talented Head of Faculty for Science. The school is an outstanding ‘through school’ with a record of accomplishment and innovation. Drawing extensively on academic research the school provides a unique curriculum experience. Our award winning new building is situated in the heart of East London. Professor Brian Cox CBE is our Patron.

Our exceptional links with QMUL, King’s College London, The University of Warwick, The UCL Institute of Education and the University of East London help shape an inspirational and challenging science curriculum. Science is an increasingly popular subject at KS4 and KS5 with most students in our expanding academic sixth form studying at least one of the sciences.

Working within a supportive and collaborative faculty, you will be an outstanding practitioner with a firm commitment to the progress of all students in our heavily oversubscribed school. The successful candidate will be passionate about shaping a rich and knowledge-based science curriculum. They will have an unwavering belief in the potential of every student. They will do what it takes to ensure that students achieve their best, and will have the contagious enthusiasm for science, which excites and motivates students and staff. They will work alongside the Lead Practitioner and Subject Leaders to lead science colleagues to make an impact on student progress and develop a rich curriculum and wider opportunities across science. They will also work alongside our award-winning group of technicians to ensure robust delivery of scientific practical work in the faculty.

We have high expectations of all students to be taught the best powerful knowledge as defined by the scientific community. We believe all teaching should be evidence informed so teachers can focus on high impact methods in their practice with sensible implications on workload. Planning of lessons are based on principles derived from cognitive science and distributed through the department to drive collaboration. The science department delivers CPD fortnightly that focuses on making our subject knowledge strong with a focus on high quality teacher explanations. The Head of Faculty plays a critical role in the strategic direction of the design and implementation of our curriculum.

The culture of SPWT aims to support new and experienced middle leaders to thrive and continuously develop, within both their teaching and leadership. The candidate will either be an experienced middle leader or looking to develop his/her career into senior middle leadership.
