Job overview

This is a new role within the newly created Faculty of Technology and Life Sciences and it is a key strategic role providing expertise and leadership in curriculum design and implementation across a number of school areas.


The City of Liverpool College currently serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners each year. WE offer the widest choice of subjects in the city, with our students engaged in a broad range of academic and vocational courses at all levels, all delivered to the highest standard of learning. The size and breadth of the college puts us at the heard of the city and brings us in contact with partners and stakeholders of all kinds, including large corporations with familiar household names as well as ongoing collaborations with Liverpool City Council. WE work closely with local training providers and employers in the private, public and voluntary sectors, offering the widest range of further education course, all offering practical experience as part of the programme.


The role is responsible to Vice Principal Curriculum Development and Innovation. The role will lead a number of school areas, which include; Health, Social Care, Sport and Public Services; Digital Academy; Engineering, Green Technologies and Logistics and Sustainable Construction and Building Services. The post-holder will be instrumental in further developing and implementing a consistent research-informed pedagogical approach, drawing upon international best practice and regional and national policies and expectations.


The Head of Faculty will be a member of the Strategic Leadership Team which drives a culture of high performance and expectations across all areas of the college. The postholder will, from time to time, deputise for the Vice Principal Curriculum Development and Innovation and directly support the Dean for Higher Education, Dean for Academic Studies, College Directors and the Head of Faculty – Culture and Visitor Economy in delivering an outstanding student experience for all students.


The successful postholder will have proven, consistent delivery of success as the accountable person, as well as proven ability to collaborate with key employers and industry trailblazers to enhance teachers knowledge, experience in leveraging employer relationships and have a good understanding of OFSTED and SAR.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
