Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of our outstanding team at HCUC.

HCUC is the new name for Uxbridge College, which was joined through a type B merger by Harrow College on 1st August 2017. We are a highly successful College located across four main campuses in West London. With a turnover of £50 million, the College has consistently strong performance indicators, putting it in the top 5 Colleges for London financially, and it has maintained outstanding financial health (SFA) for many years.  There are over 6,000 EFA funded learners, over 800 apprentices and over 3,000 SFA funded learners. The College also caters for nearly 400 learners with high needs.

We are now looking to appoint an ambitious, analytical individual with a sound financial track record and excellent communication skills as Head of Finance. You will lead the finance and payroll teams, and work closely with senior staff across the College to ensure the achievement of our financial strategy.

Reporting to the Group Director, Finance and Resource Planning, this post is pivotal in providing essential financial control and analysis, enabling the College to identify new opportunities, whilst streamlining existing operations. This role requires excellent experience of all round accounting including management accounts, budgeting and costing as well as experience of managing payroll. It is essential that the individual is able to successfully lead a team and work closely with Directors and managers to ensure a clear understanding of financial issues across the College. You should have excellent Excel skills, and be able to prioritise efficiently and effectively in order to operate in our fast-paced environment.

For the right individual, this post is a great opportunity to make a significant impact on the success and direction of the finance and payroll teams and the College as a whole, particularly following the recent merger.

In addition to a generous salary and a great working environment, the College provides other non-pay benefits such as professional development opportunities, on site gym, 37 days annual leave plus the Christmas break and free parking on campus.

About HRUC - Harrow College

On 1 August 2017 Uxbridge and Harrow Colleges merged to become HCUC. The Colleges are now officially part of the same organisation and will work together to provide the best opportunities to students, but will keep their individual names and campuses. As well as keeping  their current identities each college will continue to run the majority of their current courses for the foreseeable future.

The merger of the two Colleges into a single legal entity has taken place in order to maximise future opportunities for students, employers and local communities, through a combination of preserving current provision, and pooling resources and expertise to develop education and training.

Group Principal and CEO Laraine Smith and Principal and Deputy CEO Pat Carvalho said: “This exciting partnership was identified by both Harrow College and Uxbridge College’s governing bodies as the best way forward for our local communities. Both Colleges are very pleased to be able to maintain their current identities and the bulk of their current courses, as well as to be enhancing provision on an ongoing basis by pooling resources and expertise. We believe this merger will result in a financially resilient and sustainable college group, allowing us to continue to meet the needs of our students, employers and the communities we serve.”

While Uxbridge College and Harrow College will continue to operate as individual Colleges serving their local and regional communities, the Uxbridge College Corporation (the Governing Body), which now oversees the running of both Colleges, has been renamed HCUC to reflect the enlarged remit of serving Uxbridge and Harrow Governors following the 1 August 2017 merger.
