Job overview

Head of Food & Catering

We seek to appoint a well-qualified and versatile Head of Food & Catering from September 2018.

We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking Head of Department to take our Food and Catering department to the next level. We are looking to appoint an inspirational, motivated and enthusiastic teacher of proven ability, who has the vision and skills to lead our experienced and dedicated department.

The role of Head of Food & Catering at Hinchingbrooke would be ideal for either an experienced Head of Department or someone looking to make that next step. You will be supported by a Head of Faculty, allowing you to strategically lead the department. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to lead a dynamic department and be pivotal in shaping the department on its journey to outstanding.

Food & Catering is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range and at all levels of ability. It is taught in mixed ability groups in Years 7 and 8, with pupils choosing their GCSE options in Y9. Currently, pupils take the WJAC Level 1/2 in Hospitality and Catering for Years 9-11.

The Food and Catering Department is well resourced and is committed to extending and improving its range of opportunities for students. Teachers are well supported by one technician and there are two purpose built practical teaching rooms with two separate classrooms for theory work.

Teaching

The successful candidate will be expected to be an excellent classroom practitioner. As a school we value highly the development of new and existing materials and the post will involve the opportunity to work on the review of existing materials and the development of new ideas.

Above all else, the successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals.

The school sees the form tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role.

The role will suit either newly or recently qualified, enthusiastic and aspirational teachers or those with good and outstanding practice who wish to share their expertise and make a difference. The school offers a bespoke CPD programme, research and development, links and networks with other outstanding schools as well as a plethora of extra-curricular and cross-curricular working opportunities.

Why come to Hinchingbrooke?

This is a fantastic school to work in: on interview, we ask candidates for their impressions of the School and without fail they comment on how wonderful our students are, the positive team ethos amongst staff and how friendly and welcoming the school is.

If you are an outstanding teacher it really is worth applying for this post and joining somewhere special.  We are seeking to appoint a candidate who is passionate about their subject area; a team player who will thrive on collaboration and team work; someone who really wants to make a difference!

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Hinchingbrooke School values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

Closing date: 23 March 2018 (12 noon)

Interview: W/C 26 March 2018
