Head of Foundation and Young Artists Learning

The Royal Drawing School

Hackney

  • Expired
Job type:
Full Time, Permanent

Job overview

The Royal Drawing School is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that aims to raise the standard and profile of drawing through teaching and practice. The School is one of only a few institutions in the world offering in-depth, quality tuition in drawing from observation. The School runs an MA-level postgraduate scholarship programme, a fine art foundation course, fully-funded international artists' residencies, a young artists programme for 10-18 year-olds, and over 250 different drawing courses for the public each year.

As a new and exciting role, the School is looking to appoint an outstanding educational leader in the visual arts, to take responsibility for the delivery and quality of our full-time Foundation Year for school-leavers, our Young Artists Programme for students aged 10-18, and our thriving UK and international artist residency programme for alumni of the School's MA-level Drawing Year and early-career artists from a range of partner institutions.

A member of the School's Senior Leadership Team, the post holder will be passionate about opening up opportunity for committed and talented young people, for whom the study of drawing from observation, and a broad range of skills in fine art practice, represents a pathway to higher education and a route to innovation in the creative industries and beyond.

A distinctive feature of our Foundation Year is the artistic leadership provided by its Course Leaders and faculty, all of whom are practising artists. The post holder (who is not required to teach) will ensure that our priorities for mission and pedagogy are upheld within the context of a rich and responsive curriculum.

The post holder will also have the experience and confidence to further develop the School's relationships with publicly-funded art schools and universities, both as destinations for our Foundation Year students, and the source of applicants to our MA-level Drawing Year.
