Recruitment + retention allowance of up to £3,489 may be available for a well-qualified teacher who has experience teaching A Level.

We are looking for a Head of Geography in a school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development.

Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted outstanding school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of two Twyford Trust schools, and the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth. The organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. SLT development opportunities are made available internally on a two-year basis.

The Geography Department comprises 4 staff, including the Head of Department, and works closely with the History Department under the leadership of the SLT link for Humanities. The school offers a wide-ranging Geography curriculum combining traditional physical geography, in which the dynamics of the physical landscape are studied, with an exploration of issues within human geography, including contemporary issues such as the impact of modern conflict. Schemes of work, and related assessments, have recently been revised to ensure students are well prepared to succeed at GCSE and are engaged and enthused to study Geography at A Level and beyond.

The new post-holder will be joining a small and successful team, with 77.5% of GCSE students achieving A*-C and 40% A*-A (2016). 2016 results at KS5 were AS: 82.4% A-C, and A2: 87.2% A*-C.

Geography is a popular choice at both GCSE and A Level. Average GCSE cohorts are between 80 and 100 students (currently 93 students in Year 11 taking Geography). At AS we have 33 students, with 26 students taking Geography A2 this summer.

The post-holder will have an unrivalled opportunity to promote and sustain academic excellence within a comprehensive context at an exciting time at the Twyford Trust.
