Head of Geography.
Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive secondary school, based in Greenwich. The school is looking to add a Head of Geography to their progressive and supportive Humanities Department ideally starting in September 2021 or sooner.
The role will include managing the delivery of Geography at KS3 and GCSE across year groups 7 to 11. You will lead your department to enhance provision and will get the chance to lead on exciting project work throughout the year. Project work may include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school. However, as Head of Department you will have full autonomy to ensure your department meets targets and exceeds needs of our learners. You will lead by example, supporting and empowering your department’s teachers, staff and pupils to achieve to the best of their ability.
“As head of the geography department, you will lead, develop and manage the effective delivery of an outstanding curriculum, which enables the highest level of progress and attainment. You will be part of the professional community of Middle Leadership and promote outstanding teaching and learning and a strong school culture within a nurturing, respectful and academically rigorous environment. The successful candidate will be capable of adding further value to a traditionally strong subject at the school. A passion for your subject and a commitment to extra-curricular activities is essential.
Geography provision at the school is very strong. All scholars study geography as a discrete subject for two hours each week at Key Stage 3. Typically, two-thirds of each year group continue the subject at Key Stage 4, with around 30-40 scholars taking both history and geography at GCSE level. Outcomes have been strong in the last three years, contributing to an Ebacc bucket score of consistently between +0.6 and +0.8. The school adopts a mastery approach to teaching and learning, with identification and repeated practice of the fundamentals of success in a discipline at its core. The geography department places a primary on developing deep knowledge of place at the centre of its approach.
This post would suit an ambitious, research-informed, subject specialist who is driven to developing a department that becomes beacon of geography provision in the UK. "
