Addey and Stanhope is rich in tradition. This has remained the core purpose of the school for 300 years and this will never be compromised.

We are looking to recruit a passionate and forward-looking Head of Geography to build on the outstanding work of the previous postholder. You will be joining a dynamic and progressive Humanities Team (consisting of Geography, History, RE, Citizenship) that supports all our pupils to be happy and healthy through providing them with the tools they need to critically assesses the world around them, to understand how that world has developed, and to support them to be informed changemakers.

This is not a ‘run-of-the mill’ school. We have an innovative approach to performance management, centering process, and pedagogy, and we are particularly in interested in leaders who consider themselves lifelong learners and are committed to developing others.

You will be leading a small and very successful Geography department and will be required to teach across Humanities. This role would suit an innovative and creative practitioner who is passionate about Geography and wishes to move into middle leadership.

The School:

1. Small, high achieving, comprehensive with a strong sense of community.

2. Individual professional development programme tailored to your needs and career ambitions - excellent opportunities for progression.

3. Located in a dynamic area of London undergoing rapid and exciting changes, with great train, tube, DLR and bus links.

We are looking for a teacher who is:

▪ Passionate about Geography

▪ An innovative and creative practitioner

▪ Committed to raising standards, with the highest expectations of all students.

▪ Committed to working collaboratively across key stages 3 and 4

▪ Committed to developing as a teacher and contributing to the continued development of the whole school

About Addey and Stanhope School

Addey and Stanhope is a school at the heart of the Deptford community in South East London. We are a small, caring, high-achieving school that is rich in tradition and history.  Above all, we are a family at Addey and Stanhope – teachers, students, parents/carers and governors – a family that has the happiness, health and success of our students at the heart of everything we do.

The school is mixed, non-denominational, and was reclassified from a grammar school to a voluntary aided school in 1977.  It is heavily oversubscribed each year and extremely popular with parents because of its reputation and ethos. We are proud of its comprehensive intake, excellent results and the fact that our students speak of Addeys as a ‘second family’.

At Addey and Stanhope we are committed to staff wellbeing and we provide a unique programme of professional development. We close early one day a week in order to facilitate this. We have strong links with a range of partners (locally, nationally and internationally) and this contributes to the professional learning of our staff.

Deptford is a vibrant and eclectic community with a thriving arts scene, only 5 miles South East of central London. The school has excellent transport links and is served by the underground, trains, DLR and buses.
