The Post 

We seek an experienced, well qualified, dedicated and inspirational graduate to lead this successful and highly committed department.  The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive team of 2 full-time teaching staff.  The successful applicant would be required to teach across the full age range and A Level experience is essential. A willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities is a requirement of all Westholme teaching staff as well as organising and delivering a full range of field trips within the department.  Other interests which are particular strengths of the successful candidate would be welcome.    The current post-holder is also Head of the Humanities Faculty and candidates should note their interest in this additional responsibility on the application form if they wish.

Introduction to the Department and Faculty

The Geography Department is highly successful and consistently achieves some of the best academic results at GCSE and A Level.  The faculty teaches Geography, History and EPR (Ethics, Philosophy and Religion) to A Level.  There are 7 full-time and 1 part-time members of staff in total, although some staff teach across departments.    In Years 7 – 9 students are taught in mixed ability groups for 2 lessons per week for each subject. All subjects are popular at GCSE and A Level with both boys and girls.  Results across the Faculty are excellent.  Geography follow the AQA specification at both GCSE and A Level.   The faculty is well equipped and resourced and comprises 7 specialist rooms, including 3 rooms predominately used by the Geography Department.   Fieldwork and enrichment visits include locally: Malham, Ainsdale Dunes, River Wyre, Hothersall Lodge, Lake District, Salford Quays; plus overseas trips every other year.  In the past trips have been organised to China, Iceland, Sorrento, USA and Sicily.
