Job overview
We seek to recruit, for September 2024, either an existing Geography teacher or a talented practitioner who would like to develop their career in this direction. Applications are welcome from those with appropriate independent or maintained sector experience, including secondary schools. Outstanding teachers who have completed their ECT programme and graduates will be considered.
An ability to teach another subject is desirable but not essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare schemes of work and a syllabus of Geography throughout the school and to monitor the teaching of Geography within the school;
- Organise and attend curriculum meetings with respect to Geography throughout the school curriculum;
- Maintain the policy for the teaching of Geography and related issues throughout the school in relation to the current curriculum;
- Teach Geography up to and including Common Entrance and School Scholarship level;
- Oversee the ordering and maintenance of Geography resources
- Organise and attend the annual Year 7 Geography Field Studies trip;
- Attend INSET as required by the Head or Deputy Head;
- Attend staff meetings, parents’ evenings and any other functions are required by the Head;
- Undertake a certain amount of administration and other tasks related to the post either at the direction of the Head or Deputy Head or by using his/her own initiative;
- Play a full part in the life of the school and to undertake pastoral and supervisory duties in the school as required.
- Abide by the objectives and targets of the school, and follow the procedures and practices utilised in all aspects of the work, including computerised and manual systems and the maintenance and analysis of relevant records, including assessment.
- Fulfil personal requirements where appropriate with regard to school policies and procedures, particularly safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, customer care and promotion of the school’s core values.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A University degree and / or recognised Teaching qualification.
- Experience at teaching Geography to Common Entrance and Senior School Scholarship level is preferable.
- Enormous energy and commitment for the post and the ability to work in harmony with colleagues.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good health and a good record of attendance.
- Sympathy with and readiness to support the school’s Educational ethos.
- An ability to use IT as a teaching resource and for personal administration.
- A good sense of humour.

“Pupil’s personal development is excellent. Relationships between staff and pupils are of the highest quality. As they progress through the school, pupils learn to be tolerant, courteous and considerate of others. Behaviour is usually excellent. The boys are extremely proud of their school. They are confident in their own abilities and aspire to excellence in all areas of school life. Excellent pastoral care is provided by all staff, both teaching and non-teaching, which contributes most effectively to the pupils’ development.
The progress and achievement of pupils in lessons is excellent. This success is enhanced by dynamic, specialist teaching and the boys’ determination to succeed.
