Job overview

From April 2023, we seek to appoint a new Head of Geography. The successful candidate will be an inspirational class teacher and will work closely with the Deputy Head (Academic) to lead the provision of Geography throughout the Prep School and The Walled Garden.

The successful candidate will have:

·        A relevant teaching qualification and at least two years of recent and relevant experience post teaching qualification

·        Recent, up to date and relevant experience in the latest methods for the teaching of Geography to children of this age group

·        An appreciation of the relevance and importance of field work in the delivery of a comprehensive Geography curriculum

·        Good computer skills and be competent in the use of ICT

·        Excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work flexibly

·        A desire to work as part of a collaborative team and an interest in sharing good practice and experience

·        Great energy in their work and the ability to inspire children of this age

·        The ability to build strong relationships with the staff and parents

·        The highest standards of teaching would be expected, but above all, the desire for continued improvement in their teaching practice and a true team player will be key characteristics for the successful candidate.

Sandroyd School is a co-educational preparatory school for both day and boarding pupils aged 2-13. It is located in 60 acres of fields, woods, and parkland near the village of Tollard Royal in Wiltshire. The pupil roll is around 230.

Sandroyd Pre-Prep was purpose-built in 2004 in the original walled garden and is home to boys and girls aged 2-7.

Sandroyd School takes its name from Sandroyd House, the home of the Reverend L H Wellesley Wesle, in Cobham, Surrey. In 1888, he created a small coaching establishment for the sons of his friends who were due to go to Eton. Over the years, the school grew rapidly, changing its premises to its current location Rushmore House. The school is a charitable trust and is administered by its board of governors.
