Job overview

The Great Schools’ Trust is a growing, dynamic and values-led multi-academy trust in the North West with five academies and a further two in development. The trust is underpinned by the core belief that a great education must serve as a cornerstone for enhanced social and geographical mobility. The trust recognises the importance of outstanding governance at all levels and is now seeking to appoint its first Head of Governance. As Head of Governance you will be the lead governance professional for the Trust and will be the strategic lead for developing, implementing and monitoring governance arrangements throughout the organisation.

This is a key strategic role for the Trust, and you will be responsible for ensuring that governance meets all statutory and regulatory compliance requirements, working with Academies, Central Trust functions and Trustees to identify and address gaps. You will be part of the Trust central team, supporting the Executive Team and also working closely with individual Academies to ensure their governance is fully compliant, whilst at the same time working effectively and dynamically supporting improvements where required. A further key dimension will be ensuring effective procedures and systems link the various layers of governance – Local Academy Councils, the board of trustees and the members of the trust – so that information flows efficiently.

You will benefit from the support of a committed and motivated team of outstanding practitioners, dedicated to each other’s well-being and the future of every child in the Trust and as this is a newly created role it provides an exciting opportunity to shape day-to-day practice.

You will require a sound knowledge of educational legislation, guidance & legal requirements alongside the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels. You must be self-motivated, with an eye for detail and have the ability to prepare and present policy reports and briefings to a variety of internal and external audiences. With this you must also share the Trusts commitment to its students and ensuring they can all become successful learners.
