Job overview

We are looking for a knowledgeable, reflective and experienced teacher to teach Health and Social Care at KS4 and KS5 and successfully implement a new wave of courses following Ofqual’s decision not to re-develop GCSE and A level. Health and Social Care is a popular subject in both Key Stages with four groups currently at KS4 and two at KS5.

The successful candidate would be responsible for introducing the Cambridge National Certificate at KS4 and the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate at KS5. They would also need to ensure the successful completion of the last year of OCR GCSE and A level courses in Y11 and Y13. For greater insight into the department please read the accompanying description of the Social Science faculty.

Our vision is simple; we create futures and that includes ensuring our staff have them too!   At Heart of England we are clear in our approach to professional wellbeing, which is crucial at a time of ever-shifting challenge and educational requirement.

For our staff we believe in agency and the right level of autonomy for the stage you’re at.  We believe that the same intellectual curiosity that lead you to want to study your subject at university and then teach it to others is what makes you best placed to make decisions about the way you teach your subject now.

We believe that when it comes to learning and teaching our motto, “No One Way … By Design” does not signify limitless variety.  Our focus is on evidence based teaching and the selection of the best method at the right time.  We all bring variety to our roles, however, excellent outcomes are forged through consistent application of what has been proven to work.

In the last few years each department has designed its own new curriculum for KS3 following the sequence of knowledge and skills they believe to be essential for students as they develop through the years.  Last year we introduced a new behaviour policy with the motto ‘Our One Way…By Design’ showing that clear boundaries and consistency is the bedrock of a successful school.  Another thing about us: we’re not in to quick fixes or superficial tweaks; we’re in it for sustainable excellence.   Our current strategic plan outlines an initial 5 year journey, not a one year journey 5 times over.

Attached to this advert is a description which aims to give a flavour of what the experience of teaching at Heart of England would be like. If you think we sound like the kind of place where you’d enjoy working then please come and visit, call for a chat, click on our website or simply apply.  The future you are seeking may well be here.

Heart of England School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post requires an enhanced CRB check.
