Heanor Gate Science College, situated on the Derbyshire / Nottinghamshire border, is looking to appoint dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic professional who combines excellent organisational and teaching skills with the ability to inspire and motivate students. The successful applicant will join a very committed, forward thinking and successful team. We are a ‘good’ school (Ofsted March 2017) with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.

We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled and enthusiastic subject leader for history, with a passion for their subject and a commitment to ensure that every child flourishes. The person appointed will have the opportunity to lead the history department to further success, ensuring high attainment and outstanding teaching and learning at all key stages. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of planning engaging curricula and developing and implementing highly effective strategies for raising attainment and securing the best possible outcomes in history. They will also have excellent knowledge of the new curriculum and KS3, KS4 and KS5. The post is advertised as full time.

We offer a supportive learning and working environment, allowing all students to make good progress and teachers to continuously develop. There is a comprehensive support package for all teachers who join the school, ensuring they are fully integrated to the ethos of the school and the trust.

About Heanor Gate Spencer Academy

Heanor is a small town, situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the Derwent Valley World Heritage site within easy reach of Derby, Nottingham and the M1. The school is located in the south-west of the town and its catchment area includes most of Heanor and nearby Loscoe, along with the rural parishes of Smalley, Shipley, Horsley Woodhouse and Morley. The school is popular, with a number of our students coming from outside the catchment area.
